Myprotein FITTEST is the YouTube series where we put our staff through seriously intense workouts. This week the Myprotein staff took on a savage workout designed by personal fitness trainer, coach and influencer Lex Griffin. Not only did the workout include some heavy weightlifting, but also some brutal boxing. Spoiler: they were wiped out.

Lex gave the team some encouraging words before they started:

“Well, you guys have got a back workout to do on my behalf, until I’m back. So, full commitment, full energy and enjoy. Good luck.”

And that’s when the fear set in...

“His arms are massive”

As always, PT Chris Broomhead was on hand to walk the team through each workout, give words of encouragement, keep them safe, and laugh at them occasionally.

“It’s going to be a very challenging workout today for these guys and I'm really excited to see how they get on.”

The workout

Boxing

The team had to endure three, three- minute rounds, with a one-minute break between each.

Chris warned the team: "It’s going to really test you all.”

After some pretty scary fighting with the camera and a motivational (at least we think?) pep talk from Matty, the workout started.

The team were pretty naïve to begin with...

“We just punch for three minutes?”

By the end of the three rounds, they were definitely all regretting signing up for the challenge.

Wide lat pull down

The staff learned the hard way about having to control their movements if they didn’t want to go flying up towards the bar.

We have a feeling one person may have counted his reps wrong accidentally on purpose, just to get away with doing less. But we won’t name any names.

Seated row

Time to spruce things up. The team underwent a 70-rep challenge, having to complete 70 reps between them. And it was actually more fairly balanced than you’d expect. Fantastic effort.

Single arm landmine row

One rep is all one member of staff could attempt, before deciding it was too much: “I can’t do that.”

“That’s not natural”, “That is impossible”, “Arghh”, “It doesn’t feel right”, “Nooo”, were just some of the things we could hear in this exercise.

Pendalay row

Someone was clearly not satisfied with being told their form was just “OK”

Towards the end of the exercise, it became clear that a certain team member's pre-workout was beginning to wear off...

And another team member announced:

“This is where I retire”

Take home message

This week’s workout was so intense that one of the team clearly wanted to memory-hole the workout entirely: “Spin is where my heart lies so I’m feeling much better now I'm back on the bike”. Another discovered some deep-lying anger, and one of them thought it was a really cool experience: “I really enjoyed that". It’s possible might have been the same person who announced his love for Lex at the start of the workout. So all in all, a success we think. Same time next week?
