Ever stumbled around the gym carrying a million things? Water bottle, headphones, purse, resistance band... just to name a few. Likelihood is that this will eventually end in you forgetting your headphones by the squat rack to never see them again.

Packing a gym bag is the perfect way to ensure that you never forget to leave for the gym without everything you need, and you don’t end up getting home and realising you left something behind. Here are our essentials to pack in your gym bag for a brilliant workout.

First things first, get yourself a good gym bag...

1. Headphones

We probably don’t need to tell you the power of music in pushing you through a workout. But just to make it clear, always keeping a pair of headphones in your gym bag is definitely a good idea. Keeping a spare pair in there is even better to make sure you never feel the disappointment of forgetting your headphones again.

Try out our playlist for a killer session.

2. BCAAs or Pre-Workout

A pre-workout boost never goes a miss, especially on those days where the last thing you want to do is a barbell row. Pack some pre-workout in your gym bag so you don’t forget to take it, and feel it’s full benefits in your workout.

If pre-workout is a bit too much for you, try having a drink of BCAAs before your session, making sure your body is stocked with all the amino acids you need for your body to smash the session.

3. Towel

Especially for those super sweaty cardio sessions, having a towel on hand is always a good thing. And it can make things a little more hygienic (a must in 2020) and avoid your sweat getting around the equipment too much in the gym.

Pack our small, super soft towel to make sure you’re always prepared for a sweaty session.

4. Hand sanitiser

This one is always good to have on hand, even without the pandemic going on. The gym is somewhere where bacteria and germs can spread pretty easily, with people sharing equipment throughout the gym.

Making sure you have sanitizer at all times will give you, and those around you, peace of mind that you’re clean and sanitised.

5. Mask

You definitely don’t want to turn up to the gym and realise you can't actually go in because you’ve forgotten your mask.

Make sure to always keep a spare mask in your gym bag to avoid just that. We've got just the one.

6. BIG water bottle

A lot of gyms have stopped water refills at the water fountains in the gym, for hygiene reasons, so having a big, and we mean huge, water bottle on hand is essential.

Our Gallon Hydrator is ideal to pack in your gym bag. And will last you through your whole session, no matter how thirsty you get. And if that's a little too big for you, try the half gallon!

7. Lip balm

Dry lips can definitely occur in the gym, from the air conditioning drying out our skin, to licking our lips too much trying to push through the final few sets.

Keeping some lip balm in your gym bag protects your lips from all of that, just make sure you use your sanitiser before you start applying your lip balm!

8. Post workout snack

Some days you just can’t wait until you get home to have your protein shake, so always make sure to pack your gym bag with a post workout snack for those extra hungry days.

We recommend a Whipped Duo or our classic Carb Crusher to satisfy that sweet tooth.

9. Resistance bands

For the days when the weights section is packed and you can't get your hands on any equipment, resistance bands are the perfect companion.

With different sizes and strength ranges, for either upper body or lower body workouts, these are a great warmup or can form a full session.

Definitely worth packing a few.

10. Lifting grips

These make for comfortable lifting, and ensure that you don’t have to borrow any of the gyms equipment which can be tricky in the era of Covid.

Our lifting grips are padded for optimal comfort, and definitely have a place in your gym bag.

Take Home Message

A lot of us don’t want to bother with the changing rooms in the gym anymore, limiting any potential Covid risks. So, packing the perfect gym bag is essential to make sure you don’t leave anything behind at home, or in the gym once you’re there. Here are just 10 essentials to get you started packing the perfect gym bag.
