A diet with lots of meat and certain vegetables often means too much iron being absorbed and too much iron is extremely dangerous. Inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) chelates (binds to and removes) iron from the body when taken on an empty stomach. If taken with food it will prevent lots of the iron in the food from being absorbed. Most men over 18 have far too much iron stored in their bodies and it is recommended that all men over 18 have their iron levels checked with a simple blood test. It's not a problem for women of mentrual age because they lose iron every month with the menses. One result will be for serum ferritin (the protein which stores iron). An ideal range will be 12mg/L to 50mg/L. At a recent blood test my level was 655mg/L so was enough to get me referred to haemotology. The standard treatment for this is to take blood out every week for as much as a year, but that scares the bejesus out of me so I began to research compounds which chelate iron (bind to and remove it). IP6 is one of the most effective of these, especially when combined with inositol supposedly. IP6 is also one of the only compounds which chelates uranium and is standard treatment. I now take 3g of inositol hexaphosphate mixed with 1g of inositol (myo-inositol) on an empty stomach twice a day. It has a laxative effect if too much is taken so it's pretty much self-regulated. Moral of the story - careful taking iron and get tested!Goes Well With:Inositol (myo-inositol, also available from MYPROTEIN)
