What is Inulin?
Inulin is a starchy carbohydrate found in pulses, predominantly lentils and chickpeas. This amazing fibre has recently been featured on the BBC’s programme with Angela Rippon, ‘How To Stay Young’.
Benefits on Inulin
Inulin offers a range of health benefits. Considered a prebiotic, Inulin is a carbohydrate that good bacteria in your digestive system utilises to produce a number of nutrients which are beneficial towards human health.
How can Inulin be used?
Inulin is also used in baking to preserve the moisture in cakes and biscuits, but also as a binding agent. Inulin can also be used as syrup, by mixing it with water and heating. Finally, this versatile fibre can be used in smoothies to make them thicker and more satiating.

Having watched the programme on the benefits of inulin, I researched some more and thought i'd give it a try. I have been suffering from bowel pains due to operation scarring inside and permanently bloated stomach for over 12 years. I started taking 1 level scoop of inulin mixed with one heaped dessert spoon of milled flaxseed in water once a day and I bought a bottle of Pepto Bismal and drank a measurement of that in a morning and evening for 2 weeks ( needed to buy another bottle! ) I just had the inulin and flaxseed after that. At first I had a lot of wind and bowel movements but I persevered and within about 2 months my stomach is flat at long last, I am finally pain free and my waist as shrank significantly. I have been taking this for about 6 months now, though only have one scoop of inulin every other day and I feel so much better. I am aware that some trials say they don't know the long term affects but I do not take any medication, am pain free, slim and very active and feel I have finally got quality of life back instead of constant discomfort, plus I am told often that I look well. I would advise anyone to research then do what feels best for you. The recommended dose is one and a half scoops, the scoop is hidden inside the pouch, I found mine when I was halfway through the first pouch! I just chose to take one scoop.
Have been using Inulin in conjunction with a high protein diet great fat loss Goes Well With:Protein Shakes, Breakfast Cereals

It does wot it sez on the packet - I think!
Like a lot of people I started taking this after Angela Rippon's TV programme which talked about the benefits of taking inulin. When I first started taking it I didn't have a 'base line' to compare its effectiveness but I started taking this product a few months ago. I have since had my visceral body fat measured and will use this as a base line (I had no idea unfortunately if it had had an effect up to that point); in a year I will be able to compare when I next have my test. However, having said that - it can only be doing me good and reading other reviews I am going to continue taking it. I actually like mine stirred into yoghurt which isn't to everyone's taste and it can get a bit lumpy but to me the lumps even taste good! I know it's doing me good - you can't see what's going on inside you so in a year's time it will be interesting to see whether my visceral fat percentage has lowered! Meanwhile, great product and I shall persevere!Goes Well With:Yoghurt (if stirred really well) Water It's pretty tasteless so I guess you can put it with anything
Easy to spred on cereal or within smoothies. Seems to be effective.Goes Well With:Cereals
Very satisfied with service and product.Time will tell if the product does its job.
Given a 3 star rating because just started using produce so no visible results as yet.Goes Well With:I use it with smoothies and sprinkle it in my hot drinks and food.
Not sure yet whether this does help reduce visceral fat, but it is certainly good for the digestion and has helped family members with IBS. Recommend Goes Well With:On cereal, in drinks
Mixes really easily and is tasteless. Add it to your protein shaker or juice and you will struggle to noticeGoes Well With:Exceed
Unsure how much to take but experimentation has shown that 2 scoops am and pm have sorted IBS problems. Not sure about inner fat without a scan but well worth using for the previous reason.Goes Well With:Any liquid although needs more mixing in milk
Received very quickly. A good value product. Need to learn how to mix it with cold water to avoid formation of lumps. Stir very quickly immediately it is added to water. Once mastered this works very well. Very happy to recommend MyProteinGoes Well With:Best stirred into cold water.
I was one of the many who first saw Inulin on Angela Rippon's documentary and thought I'd try it to keep me regular, since it was cheaper than my usual psyllium husks and had other benefits. It worked great for a month, but then it took a very dramatic turn for the worst. For the last 5 weeks I have been fighting bouts of diarrhoea, a very unsettled feeling in the bowel, dreadful continual wind, and the headaches that I always get alongside tummy problems. I thought I'd had a flare up of IBS which hasn't really affected me for a couple of years. But having read more about Inulin in the last few days in my desperate attempts to settle my bowel I now realise it has been a great irritant over the last few weeks, despite adjusting the dose down to half a teaspoon per day. I have therefore resorted to psyllium husks tablets again and my 'IBS' has cleared up. So, beware, those of you who suffer with IBS, or have done in the past, this product may not suit you. I have narrowly avoided a colonoscopy that my GP referred me for. Thankfully just in time!
Seems to aid weight loss when taken in a decent quantity, recommend a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 heaped tablespoons/day depending on weight. Produces varying quantities of wind and regularity depending on body weight and digestive system. Mixes with all fluids, drinks and foods I have tried hot or cold. Haven't tried mixing it with alcohol. The 1kg bag lasts 2 people more than 6 weeks.
Have been taking it now for 5 weeks all I can say is I am feeling much better I am 81 years old on 1 November so any improvement to my health is very welcome. I intend to carry on with inulin but it will take a long time to finish this 500 grams. Thank you anyway.Goes Well With:my other medicine which is only my thyroid which is under control.
Thought we would try this for 6 months and see if it will reduce visceral fat. So far not so good had to google to find a dosage max 10grams a day. Then it left my stomach blown up and uncomfortable for a week. So left it a week and now take it 3 times a week so far so good. So we will see if it reduces my VF down, at moment it is 10 and want to lower itGoes Well With:Anything as no taste and only 1/2 a teaspoon
I've been taking inulin about six weeks as I am on steroids abd hope it will help with my steroid belly. Too soon to say what the result might be but I'm hoping it is continuing to work on visceral fat. Goes Well With:It is tasteless. I take it in plain water and it dissolves to a tasteless solution.
I first bought Inulin when I saw the BBC program everybody was talking about. In the beginning it really helped me to regulate my bowel movement, but the longer I have used it, the less effective it became and even caused a very serious constipation. I have now stopped taking it and decided to return to it let's say in 2 weeks time. Mayby my organism just got too used to it...
