I bought the hemp protein because I'm dairy intolerant. I expected that it probably wouldn't mix as well as traditional whey proteins. It *really* doesn't mix well with water but mixed with almond milk it has a much better texture. I use it with the toffee flavoured drops and the taste is fine, I also tried it with raspberry drops but they aren't really to my taste. Not much to complain about really, it does the job and is perfect for those of us who can't do dairy - just be aware that it doesn't mix well in water but is great with other liquids/in smoothies etc. Goes Well With:Toffee flavour drops and almond milk
For those struggling with the texture and taste, try putting a tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter in. I also mix it with cashew or coconut milk too. Yes it leaves an aftertaste still, but just keep chanting "hmmm, peanut butter, hmmm, peanut butter" and it may be a bit more palatable. But so far so good for me, I've noticed there's high fibre in this and it doesn't leave me gassy like whey powders. Goes Well With:peanut butter
Wanted to have a change from whey protein and something without added sugars. Opening the pouch the powder is an interesting green/grey colour. It smells earthy. It mixes pretty well with water and has a definite earthy nutty flavour. However it is quite gritty and sticks to the inside of your mouth, so you need a glass of water to help wash it down. Doesn't taste bad but it is definitely an acquired taste. Works well in a green smoothie with spinach, avocado, apple and coconut water. Might not be my everyday choice but worth a try if you struggle with whey.
Decided to remove as much dairy as possible from my diet and read some great reviews on benefits of Hemp protein. I dove right in and bought 2 x 2.5 kg bags. I read the reviews and people mentioned the taste as being bad but ok when mixed with almond milk, fruits etc. so I thought "how bad can it be? stop being a wimp and drink the dam thing". i was grotesquely wrong. the taste. wow. it's very earthy and artificial. like how I imagine soil tastes after a car tyre was melted on it. it lingers in the nasal canals forever, clinging to your nose hair. you may think I'm joking, but, the drink, it knows how bad it is and wants to punish you for as long as possible. the thought of particles of this soil drink clinging to my nose hair consumed my thoughts so much I considered pulling out the hairs as an attempt to outsmart it. I mixed it with, peanut butter, fruits, hazelnut and almond milk, amongst others and it only makes it worse because the initial taste is relatively ok, but then the evil b*stard ambushes you at the end when all the lovely flavours have left your pallet. bam! burnt tyre soil in your nose. people giving this 5 stars and pretending it's OK, I'm annoyed at them. under no circumstances is this ok and I bought it on the back of People saying it was ok. it's simply not true. I managed half of a bag before I succumbed to failure and went back to whey. fellow my protein customers have let me down with their reviews. for some reason , they're pretending it's OK because they're scared to admit they made a terrible mistake. "I mix mine with a banana, Chia seeds, manuka honey and really compliments it". That's BS. only purchase this if you want to do bush tucker trials. Everything about the hemp protein is a go. It tastes like dirt but who cares. The sugar from 1 frozen banana is enough to sweeten it up enough. Great nutrition content & I recommend this product. The only downside is the packaging. I got the 2.5 kg bag and it won't close. I have the standard MP whey also & it has the new packaging. It properly seals. I have been looking for a supplement without all the additional nonsense they put in some protein powders these days, and this is it. Very clean and natural, great in the mornings in an earthy breakfast smoothie and perfect for a post workout shake. You have to play with different food combinations to get the right mixability and taste in a smoothie initially, but the natural, earthy flavour remind you of how clean it really is. Regarding post workout a full scoop of hemp with alpro coconut milk is all you need to chug it down, personally a perfect tasting combo. I am relatively new to the world of protein supplements. I ordered and have tried the Hemp protein as the Whey seemed to bloat me. Hemp protein is absolutely disgusting. I purchased hemp as it seems it's the only vegan option. Tried it a few times before and after the gym but not sure if its effective. I have to mix it with fruit & almond milk to try to make it palatable but it still tastes awful. It's also difficult to mix. After using dairy based protein supplements, for many years, I decided to try MP Hemp Protein as an alternative. I mixed up my first shake with the Hemp Protein, which mixed well with semi skimmed milk. After less than 10 minutes of consuming my first Hemp Protein shake I started to feel a little unwell. After approximately 20 minutes my hands began to swell up and burn/itch, so did my feet. My throat began to close up and I started to lose my voice and became short of breath and wheezy. By the 30 minute stage I came out in hives on my hands, arms, legs, upper body and even in my mouth. Obviously at this stage I was becoming very worried and realised that I was having a very bad allergic/anaphylactic reaction to the hemp. With a bit of quick thinking I decided to take an antihistamine tablet to try to prevent a trip to A & E. Thankfully, within 15 mins of taking the antihistamine the symptoms started to reduce. With a bit of research it seems that this sort of reaction to hemp products is not that uncommon. So if you are thinking about trying MP Hemp Protein please think very carefully before buying and consuming it. I do not have any allergies to nuts or any other foods, so was caught completely off guard by the reaction I experienced. BEWARE!
Well I've never had hemp protein before so this was my first time. I chose it in alternative for whey. It is proven to be more healthy than when but it tastes really bitter. Ive tried mixing with smoothies. But it still tastes bitter.Goes Well With:Erm yet to discover what it goes well with.
