I was highly sceptical before using this product. Since I became vegetarian at the beginning of this year I have been trying to cut down my consumption of dairy products whilst maintaining a reasonable level of protein to maintain (not necessarily build) muscle whilst attending the gym. As a result, pea protein was a highly logical change to make. In reading reviews I became increasingly concerned with the reviews regarding taste, however when I decided I happily eat most things without minding the taste I decided that it was worth a shot as a cheap, more sustainable and healthy (in my opinion) alternative. On first trying the product I must admit the taste was different, it is important to remember unflavoured does not mean no flavour, it does taste uniquely like pea protein. However, those who simply cannot stomach it must have been getting used to these cute soft fruit flavours for a little too long. The taste is not bad, and in my opinion quite good, just accept it, have it for a week and you will soon be drinking it with no problem, and who knows maybe some pleasure. I feel adding to it anything but water is unnecessary as it only makes whatever you add it to taste 'off' or different, something no one is ever ready for. Other than that I have found it highly effective and MyProtein have been as sick as ever!Goes Well With:water, keep it simple
Don't try mixing with water, as it tastes like mushy peas (without the salt to mask the flavour!) not great after a workout. Mixing with milk masks the taste slightly, however I've found better results with other proteinsGoes Well With:Milk
I've eaten some truly vile things in my time but this takes the cake for the most disgusting thing I've ever had the misfortune of putting into my mouth. Goes Well With:The bin
It's a little grainy and if not blended thoroughly can have a thick residue, and needs a fruit cordial to make it taste nice, but it's providing adequate protein at a competitive price, and better for the environment than soya. So worth trying if you are vegan like me and require a protean boost for gym practice Goes Well With:Any vegan milk, but with fruit cordial
As a vegan lifter, I was advised to mix pea and soy proteins for a better range of aminos. This powder is not ideal for sweet or dessert smoothies if you don't add intense flavouring and sweeteners to it. However, it is EXCELLENT for baking- the flour-like consistency is a great binder and yields satisfying protein breads, pancakes and cookies (example- mixed with oats, maple syrup, cinnamon, walnuts and raisins - fab cookies). I also found it an great thickener for savoury soups and Asian dishes. Given its nutty flavour, I mixed it into a paste with chestnuts and some stevia and use it as a low fat peanut butter-like spread with berry jelly on toast. It's very filling and a great protein source - if you're creative, you'll adore it.Goes Well With:Savoury dishes, baking, as a paste with sweet fruit
I really like this pea protein. It mixes well and is great with mashed banana or in a smoothie.Goes Well With:Banana
This is great because it doesn't contain any gluten or dairy. I was a bit disappointed when I tried mixing it as a plain protein shake as it really isn't pleasant and I couldn't even take one mouthful without heaving! BUT now I've tried to mix a few things with it and I am using these as an after workout protein bump. Try these two tasty recipes with 28g of Pea Protein: 250ml Alpro Original Almond Milk (sweetened) 1 Teaspoon Cocoa Powder OR 250ml Alpro Unsweetened Almond Milk 1 Banana 4-5 pieces frozen mango 4-5 pieces frozen pineapple Handful Fresh Spinach Goes Well With:Sweetened Almond Milk & Cocoa Powder Unsweetend Almond Milk, Banana, Mango, Pineapple & Spinach
I love this protein source. However when taking it on its own straight after a work out I did not rate the taste as it tastes to me like "bog water" (or if any of you have tasted Spirulina it kinda like that but not as bad). However when mixed with other ingredients e.g bananas it tastes much better, it's easily mixed with milks or milk alternatives and is much more appetising Goes Well With:Bananas. Peanut butter. Milk/milk alternatives.
Makes a thicker kinda consistency.... really nice with some cocoa powder and cayenne pepperGoes Well With:Cocoa powder and cayenne pepper
Lovely slow release protein for those who can't have dairy but want high protein content. Mixes well just wish there was flavoured choices!Goes Well With:Flavour syrup, baking
On its own the taste leaves a lot to he desired, the consistency is very thick which is perfect for smoothies, if you add some bananas and peanut butter the taste is quite good but it is way too thick to drink as a protein shake after the gym.Goes Well With:Bananas + Peanut butter + Cinnamon + Ice
This is probably the worst protein I have ever tasted. Genuinely nearly got sick after tasting it, if you are looking for an alternative to milk look else wear. In saying that, all other my protein products i have tried are fantastic and i suppose what can you really expect from protein made from peas :)
Have been using pea protein daily in my smoothies for over a year and find it to be easy to mix and digest. I did not get on with whey protein but have not had any digestive problems with the pea protein. The taste takes a bit of getting used to - i put some extra dates in my smoothie at first but soon reduced them. Its not a horrible taste, just a bit unusual! My protein is by far the cheapest source that i have found and as far as I can tell, the quality is great. Goes Well With:avocado, banana, cacao, nut butter and coconut milk
Sorry guys, but this is the worst tasting thing I have ever tasted. Tried to mix it with coconut milk, with almond and coconut milk, with cow milk and cocoa and flavourings, with just water and flavourings, with orange juice, with tropical fruit juice, the overwhelming pea flavour is simply too strong. It makes me puke. I have tried to mix one scoop with three eggs, some peas and onions and I've cooked a frittata but still you could feel that disgusting taste. Maybe this can be used for some baking but it would make no sense with all the extra carbs sugar calories and stuff. I just need to drink this three times a day, possibly with water. This product is not fit for that purpose. Goes Well With:NOTHING
I'm lactose intolerant, so I'm trying out different non-dairy protein shakes, and by far, this one is the best. It's low in carbs, sugar and high in protein, so is ideal for me, but the one thing I would complain about is its taste. My god...the taste. It's like a nutritionist was asked what texture to give the shake and they walked outside with a mug and scooped out the scummiest pond water, and then engineered it with test subject's tears from the initial taste. It's really that bad. Other than that, I would recommend it - a great product which makes you need to drink about a gallon of water to get rid of the residue in your mouth. Buy some 'Flavdrops' to go with it. It actually improves the taste...by about 1%Goes Well With:Nothing. It's the Devil incarnate.
Gritty and dusty texture even when mixed, but good cheap vegan protein sourceGoes Well With:Banana
I've tried hemp and rice protein but this is by far the best. I don't like sweet drinks so the slightly savoury taste is ideal. I mix it with about a scoop of water using a chopstick, to make a paste, then add a little more water to make a cream, finally topping up with oatly or other non-dairy drinks to make it runny. There is the odd lump but they are not unpleasant! It makes a satisfying drink and I don't have a problem with the texture, which is very fine. This is a great product as I want to break free of dairy - it's a cruel industry and the cows suffer greatly to supply the huge and unnecessary demand for milk their calves should be drinking, not us humans. Goes Well With:oat and nut milks
Don't bother mixing this with anything! I assumed it would taste like kaka so I immediately made a smoothie using blueberries almond milk etc ... No no no. It taste far better on its own. Just mix with water and ice. It still tastes a little earthy but it has so many benefits apart from just being a great source of protein! And it's amazing for cooking with, I made the best protein pancakes with this! Goes Well With:Water and ice! Great for cooking!
It tastes like mushy peas, no surprise there. But it mixes quite well, you can kind of feel it a little bit gritty or like on your teeth. Really really good value! I only recommend if you dont care about taste (Not awful with water but horrid with milk) or have like smoothies or something.Goes Well With:Water or maybe smoothies
ive been looking for some time for the perfect protein supplement for me. despite some reviews here, i decided to give this product a go mainly because its low price. I just received it 2 days ago, so far its been love at first sight, it has everything i was looking for. The taste is great , much better than carni pro, soya protein or rice protein for sure. but the best thing is how well it mixes with rice milk, i havent tried it with anything else yet. I am milk intolerant and decided to go vegan just recently this product will surely be in my next order to myprotein . Goes Well With:rice milk
You can't physically drink it, taste is so bad you cannot drink a full one. I covered my nose and downed one and then they most it it back up.
Good quality product. Great value for money. I bought this to mix with psyllium husks, to make a protein pizza base. It was successful!
Was really disappointed with this product. It doesn't mix well at all, always lumpy. Taste is not nice even when mixed with flavoured soya milk.Goes Well With: ............Nothing........
id been using this for about a year, tastes like peas, I like peas. But ive had to throw out the last 2 batches ive bought. Tastes bitter and gritty. Off to look for something smoother...
This product is the first protein powder I have tried so far, so I can't compare it to other ones. However, it has been highly effective in reducing my recovery times after intense exercise. The product mixes well with smoothies (you won't be able to taste 30g of this in a 600ml green smoothie), but also works with just water (it's not a 100% pleasant taste, but it's not horrible either). I also happened to choose MyProtein's Pea Isolate specifically over other ones I had found (on Amazon) because it had the lowest quantity of salt out of all of the ones I had came across.Goes Well With:Green Smoothies (10/10) Sweetened Almond Milk (7/10) Water (6/10 - it's definitely drinkable)
I got the unflavoured version as I planned to use it in cooking and wanted something neutral. Pea protein keeps the moisture when baked for example, and does not have that drying effect like whey. I also wanted to diversify my intake from the standard whey shakes. As a shake...it's really not good. When baked it keeps a bit of the awful taste, but it's easier to disguise. It's particularly complementary to savoury goods. I use it in pizza doughs, salty pancakes and other bread like items and it's a really convenient way to boost the protein content. It's usable for sweets as well. Goes Well With:Anything to mask the flavour
Been using it for three years now and I absolutely love it. Provides me with an alternative to whey and hemp
Tastes very strange but when added with flavdrops it's a lot better! Does not mix well with a spoon - shaker or blender preferableGoes Well With:Vanilla or peanut butter flavdrops
Drinking this without any added flavoring is truly a nightmare. Thankfully, I've found that a great way to finish this with pleasure is adding 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder (low fat, with some added sugar). It creates your very own chocolate milk that tastes pretty good. There is still some chalky texture left behind, but other than that, it's really a pleasure drinking this.Goes Well With:2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
I blended it with a big dollop of peanut butter, an apple, coconut milk and hazelnut milk. I was really pleasantly surprised, it is SO much better than whey protein which always made my stomach funny and tasted horrible. If you mix this with peanut butter and fruit it is really palatable and gentle on your stomach. I was worried about the taste after reading the reviews but it's a lot better than I expected, it smells of nothing really, faintly like bird food, and you can't really taste it when it's mixed with peanut butter. Pleasantly suprised! And it's so cheap! Something like 20p a serving which is a dream. I will try a banana next instead of an apple.Goes Well With:Peanut butter Apple I tried coconut milk and hazelnut milk as I had these to hand but I predict it will go well with any milk substitutes.
This is a nice product, I add it in to my fruit smoothies mornings and post workout you don't really taste the powder too much when mixed with fruits however even in a vitamix this doesn't blend too well, it becomes very sticky the moment it comes in to contact with fluid and sticks to the side of the container in lumps so out of a 30g serving you probably only end up with around 20g blended in with your shake/smoothie! Fast delivery as always and well packaged, I will try the hemp next time to see if it blends any better. Goes Well With:Banana & Pineapple
The worst tasting protein I've tried, it doesn't help that all the powder clumps together at the bottom of the shaker too.Goes Well With:I'm yet to find anything
Pea protein is a great protein powder for Vegans or wanting an easy on the stomach protein source. Mixes well with in smoothies - it's pretty smooth (compared with rice protein). I don't have this with only water so cannot comment of that. But have in smoothies with banana, blueberries, water, spinach, oats and cocoa and sometimes mix with hemp or brown rice protein for a better amino composition. Also great add to savoury foods like curry or soup or to make bread rolls or pancakes. And if you make your own it's fab added to snack bars, desserts and banana nice-creams. Excellent after a workout or in your want to add protein to your meals. I have also added to mash potato to make meal more nutritious when it may be lacking in protein. Also great inGoes Well With:Fruit or chocolate smoothies Desserts Soups and curries etc. Breads and pancakes
Had Soy protein isolate before and thought it tastes bad, BUT this stuff is ON ANOTHER LEVEL. It doesnt mix well, its like water mixed with sand. Going back to Soy protein isolate, it actually tastes awesome compared to pea protein isolate. Goes Well With:Dump
I've enjoyed this protein. It has it's downsides - it's really fine and sticks like chalk, it doesn't taste good and when I mix it with anything the last few chugs are silty. BUT! It's cheap, it's free from gluten and dairy, and you can make it taste better. I mix it two ways. One - with BCAA - Lemon and Lime from myprotein. It tastes better. Two - with BCAA - Lemon and Lime and Powerade. I have this during my training sessions. It tastes pretty good, even if the resulting colour is horrible. Goes Well With:BCAA, Powerade
i have bought two pouches of this pea protein, i believe it is heavier and thick than whey, the R and D should think of a solution for the taste. not bad if diluted well and mixed with fruit juiceGoes Well With:Juice
Mixes ok, doesn't taste of much so with a flavouring it goes down well and makes a nice shake. Seems good value, lots of protein for the money and easy on the stomach, ie I'm not releasing obnoxious odours and being threatened with being evicted by my housemates! Result!!Goes Well With:Blueberries
Since I'm using this protein for a while and reading so many bad reviews complaining about the taste, here is my recommendation to get rid of any unpleasant experience and get the epic taste this protein has. For some reason there are two different consistency for this protein which I guess comes down to different production method (same 'issue' with instant oats and egg white protein) For the very finely grinded version Use 420 water + 30g pea protein + 80g dextrose. This recipe gives an amazingly creamy and wonderful tasting result. When I first came across with this consistency I mixed it as I always did (see roughly grinded version) and it was tasting like 'pig juice'... but a horrific one... For the roughly grinded version Use 300ml water + 30g pea protein + 60g dextrose. I've found that this version is overly sweat with more than 60g dextrose but taste like wonder. Hope this helps. I can't give less then 5* for taste. Goes Well With:Dextrose
You really get what you pay for! MyProtein are normally top-notch when it comes to flavour and texture however this product does not taste or have the texture anywhere near the 4-5 star reviews people are giving it. The texture is chalky and an overpowering taste of what I can only describe as stale. I followed what others had said about blending or mixing it to mask the pea protein flavour. This did NOT work! After following what other reviewers said of mixing it with bananas and peanut butter only left me with a slightly banana scented, chalky, stale flavoured drink. Regarding mixability, it stuck on the side of the blender and the roof of my mouth, might be the reason of the chalkiness. Overall, I would not recommend this product and suggest to try another protein product from the MyProtein selection, personal recommendation would be the Whey Protein range.Goes Well With:Not sure as the pea powder flavour overpowers
So here's what I think of Pea Protein Isolate after 3 months of use: - It's affordable. (comparitively) - I feel healthier taking this than I would whey. - No gross whey farts. No noticeable negative effect on digestion or bowels. - High protein content. - Mixes fine in my opinion. No protein mixes perfectly every time, but I have no complaints. - Effective: I have noticed as much growth, if not more, than with other protein supplements. - A lot of people have commented on the taste being awful, but I find it fine. I usually have it with milk and a few MyProtein FlavDrops - but I've had it with water and the drops quite often, and just with milk or water a handful of times. I don't treat protein shakes as some kind of tasty milkshake, I have them to supplement my diet, and to me the taste is fine, and actually quite nice with some flavdrops. Is it my favourite alternative protein source? No. I prefer using hemp protein (normally MyProtein's). I prefer most things about hemp protein, and my digestion feels even better than usual. BUT, hemp is quite a lot more expensive, and has a lower protein content. I'd recommend it to anyone willing to try, and I'll buy pea protein again, as its a great price and I'll probably cycle it with hemp protein. Goes Well With:FlavDrops
I purchased this protein because I was looking for something "cleaner" and without so many ingredients and artificial sweeteners. It tastes awful, and the texture is also bad - very chalky. I guess that's the sacrifice you have to make when trying to eat very clean and avoid chemicals. I have to force myself to choke it down, and I dread it every time. I don't think I will be buying this again. I should also mention that I have been mixing this with water only to avoid adding more calories. Goes Well With:Wanting to gag.
I am a big fan of proats and when I had to switch to a non dairy or egg blend of protein powder this was the one I picked. Well all I will say is it does not mix well with oats or a microwave and the taste and texture was horrible. It was so bad that I couldnt even bring myself to try it in a smoothie and definitely not as a protein shake by its self :-( Goes Well With:The Bin
Only been using it for a couple of weeks so not sure of the effectiveness yet. Not much taste to it but it can give drinks a very powdery thick texture if you don't have enough liquid. Usually mix mine with a morning smoothie and then after a workout with some nut milk. I have found that generally the vegan protein powders are not as tasty or mixable as whey powders and I have gotten used to that now but overall it's easy enough to mix in with things.Goes Well With:Nut milk, peanut butter and a couple of bananas. Can't go wrong with a chunky monkey
Oh my days.. I cant cope!! WHEN will they make a non Whey Protein that doesn't give me horrendous gas, sore stomach, bloating bla bla bla?? I was told to try pea protein, the thought make me giggle but after trying it for the first time, I wanted to cry.. Seriously is this the best they could do!!?? it tastes absolutely disgusting.. its gross and has a powered texture even when mixed and the after taste !!! DO NOT let it linger.. down it and ram your face with mint leaves :) There are some good tips on here for mixing and disguising the taste, so I'm getting my lab out and I WILL make it nice, Because the half a bottle of flavour drops I chucked in didn't touch the sides.. Good luck people.. Fingers crossed this one helps though and I will man up and finish the pouch.. urrghhhhGoes Well With:Currently NOTHING..
I've switched to pea protein since I have milk intolerance and well, it is truly a god sent. I'm not a vegetarian and will never be but this protein is absolutely marvellous on both its effectiveness and taste. I used to add instant oats into my shake for the extra calorie as I'm a hard gainer but it's no longer needed. This protein feels like the combination of all good. As far as I understand, the amino acid profile is slightly poorer they whey's, therefore I add 7g of Essential Amino Acids to my shakes to compensate this - it works like a charm. I can only recommend this to anyone looking for a beast alternative to whey.
The results you achieve from this product are the same as you would receive from any other protein supplement with a protein concentration. With that being said, it is easily the worst tasting protein shake I have ever purchased. I do not have a strong gag reflex but I have almost been sick twice now due to the chalky after taste. A friend came over the other day and tried some, his exact words were "That's fuc**** minging. It tastes like chalk and cheese". while I disagree with the cheese part, he was spot on about the chalk. It puzzles me how other consumers are leaving reviews rating this 5 stars for taste. I'm going to stop taking pea protein and instead opt for the chocolate soy protein and hope for the best. I hope this review helped. Srs. Goes Well With:The ability to hold back chunder.
I bought this powder a few days ago and unfortunately hadn't really noticed how high the salt content of this powder is. Mixed with water it tasted and smelt dreadful, but mixed with semi skimmed milk and a flavoring it was acceptable. Due to the high salt content though I will not be using this powder, there are others available with lower salt.
This is an excellent product, very high protein just wished it tasted betterGoes Well With:Banana/Fruit
I found the powder to be quick and effective! I've already seen gains in a short time and I highly recommend this product! The product, however, smells like a moldy towel, and tastes like gym socks... But it's not about taste! Throw in some smoothie and enjoy the gains! 10/10 for performance! Goes Well With:Smoothie... Bananas and strawberry!
