During sleep, when it is impractical to consume food or drink, your body will be in starvation mode and may start to break down muscle tissue. This could have a negative impact on both recovery and performance. As a result, a slow release protein can be perfect for recovery throughout the night.
Unlike whey, Myprotein Micellar Casein is a slow release protein derived from milk. Casein can take up to 6 hours to completely digest and be utilised, which means that it can drip feed your muscles with a tapered supply of amino acids over a prolonged period of time. This makes Micellar Casein the perfect product for between meals or pre-bed. Each serving boasts an incredible nutritional profile with 26g of protein and only 1.2g of carbohydrates and 0.5g of fat.
This protein source hosts a complete amino acid profile and contains branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) which are the building blocks for new proteins. Micellar Casein delivers 26g of slowly-absorbed protein per serving which may vastly improve your night-time recovery alongside contributing to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass. With minimal fat and carbohydrates, this product certainly compliments the desired goals of a calorie-controlled diet.
Micellar Casein is an excellent source of protein for any individual, from recreational gym-goers to ultra-marathon runners who are looking to increase their daily protein intake to contribute to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass. As a dietary supplement, we recommend consuming before bed with milk or between meals with water, 2-3 times per day.
Please note that the labelling on this product is provided in English as a minimum. French, Italian, German, Spanish, Danish, Swedish and Finnish may also be present on a product by product basis.
Add 7-10oz of water or milk into our shaker (the less liquid the thicker the shake will be). Then add 30g, shake and consume. Use just before bedtime for optimum results, but can also be taken between meals or 2-3 times a day.
Note: We advise that all servings are measured using an accurate set of scales. While we make every attempt to provide an accurate equivalent measure using our Myprotein scoops, these are only approximate and are not a substitute for using a standardised measuring device.
Do not exceed the stated recommended daily dose. This product is a food supplement and therefore should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Store in a cool dry place, out of the reach of young children.

Mix with a spoon or whisk don't use a shaker because of the thick foam. However foam is secondary to the taste which is very much along the lines of tasting like a wet dog smells! Goes Well With:Bad sense of taste
Very nasty taste. I would not recommend. Using casein from different manufacturer use to make me feel full for at least 2-3 hours which mean I was not going sleep hungry. After 30 minutes I feel like I was drinking water. When you mix it with milk it is quite thick which will make a difference and let me feel full for up to an hour which is ok, but taste is just no for me. Goes Well With:milk ok, water awful.
This casein is great - mixes easily, awesome price, tastes great and doesn't have that horrible gritty texture like some other brands do. Been using it for a while and it's great for recovery - definitely helps with DOMS. I bought the vanilla flavour and I'm usually not a big fan of vanilla but this one is great - I found that if you mix it with just enough milk for it to turn into a mousse-y texture and then add some cinnamon it's kinda like a cinnamon bun pudding - so definitely try that out, it's delicious :) Goes Well With:cinnamon, milk, greek yogurt
Unflavoured is probably the worst you can get. So powdery and just tastes bad. Anything else is fantastic. Great results overall - does what it says but for pure taste... unflavoured is bad. Goes Well With:NOTHING.
Grate little product at grate price , will defo keep getting more thanks mypritein
We went with the chocolate flavour and after having tried the PHD's and Optimum Nutrition ones, the taste of this one wasn't as good, there's a bit of a weird taste towards the end of your swallow that messes up the whole thing.
I have the chocolate one, it's so tasty. Yes it's hard to mix but don't mix it with water or milk... mix it with Greek yoghurt.. trust me!Goes Well With:Greek yoghurt
Having tried a lot of Casien protein I found this to be one of the worst. The powdery taste does not seem to dissapear no matter how long you shake it. The taste feels like artificial sweetener and quite grainy. Not even that flavoursome either. This is surprising to me given how light the feel of the casien powder is. Fairly dissapointed as I was recommend it by a good friend. The price is reasonable which may be a false sense of security. Having bought a 2.5kg I'm kinda of lumbered with it but may cut my losses and go back to my usual USN and Maximusle brands. It's difficult to tell if it has had any effect as I have only tried it for a few days but like I say if one is unable to tolerate or stomach the taste of it then may not see the true benefits, if indeed their is one. Sorry to be so negative folks but it's a shame as the other reviews seemed so positive about it, I just cannot see how!Goes Well With:Nothing. Tried it with milk and water. It ruins in both cases. Sorry to be so negative it really is that bad.
This is the first time I've ever ordered casein and I've been training on and off for 8 years or so. It's taken me a while to fully understand the benefits of giving your body what it needs after a workout (and in general, even if you don't work out!). Friends had mentioned the benefits of taking casein vs regular protein but I never bothered to get any. For a long time all I would use as supplements was whey protein and creatine. Then I tried BCAA's, which friends had also recommended to me, and started noticing results, which not only motivated me in my training but it also motivated me to try out other supplements which may be of benefit... which is why I ordered casein. Casein is great. I take it before bed and that way I know my body is getting what it needs while I sleep. I absolutely hate going to bed feeling hungry and although having a banana or two before bed might stop the feeling of hunger, it doesn't mean you're providing your body with everything it needs to recover after a training session. It hardly takes any extra effort to mix this stuff up and wash your mixer bottle half an hour before bed and the benefits certainly outweigh this. I mix mine (chocolate flavour) with full-fat milk as I am trying to bulk up and it tastes amazing! I gave "mixability" 4 stars as I feel it doesn't deserve 100% (5 stars) but if it was a rating out of 10, I would certainly give it a 9. This is purely because it doesn't seem to mix as well as the whey protein and when I swallow the casein there's a very slight gritty feeling in my throat, but I guess that's the nature of the product in its composition. I would recommend casein to anyone. It takes longer to break down and so it 'drip-feeds' your muscles with protein over a longer period. I've read before that some of the top bodybuilders of this world will get up in the night at, say, 4am and eat steaks just so that their body doesn't run out of the fuel it needs to build/preserve muscle mass. I don't see myself doing that any time soon so, for now at least, I'll be staying stocked up on this stuff!Goes Well With:Whole (unskimmed) milk, BCAA
just started taking this product and find it mixes well with milk at night time and also with water during the day. It tastes great too and quite thick if using a little less liquid and really fills you up. The only down side is the massive bag it comes in and is quite messy when trying to put in shaker as the powder is very fine and a scoop of the exact size would be better than trying to guess the one and a quarter that is required. I will be continuing to use this product as it is great value.Goes Well With:water or milk
Terrible consistency and mix-ability. Half of the shaker is foam. Long way to go before competing with ON.
Ordered and been using for about 2 weeks now and can genuinely feel a difference in muscle recovery since i've ben taking it each night. I mix the unflavoured powder with milk and find this nice to drink before bed, but does need a bit more shaking than usual protein shakes. I've also tried the unflavoured powder with water and found this unpleasant so I always use milk now. Guess you won't have this problem with the flavoured variety. Overall, pleased with the quality and price so will be reordering.Goes Well With:Milk
Take this before bed for the slow release of protein while asleep. Chocolate with water taste good and mixes well. It is a very fine powder compared to whey protein so be caregull if your wearing dark clothes as it can be a pain to get off.Goes Well With:Water
In comparison to casein from ON or BSN it's not even worth a try. I've bought chocolate one - it doesn't have even a pinch of chocolate taste in it. Tastes really awful, and the consistency is horrible. Don't buy it - ain't worth a penny.
Mixed with water it don't seem to have a strong taste but with milk the taste is more strong. Mixes ok best to mix and leave for 5min can taste powder and it foam up well so shake let stand and made with milk very nice ,good quality which is the most important thing. Strawberry casien Goes Well With:Milk and a couple spoon full of Greek yogurt
Poor taste and not thick but works
I bought 1kg and just want to finish it quickly. I don't feel like it is effective. I bought the vanilla one and it does not taste good.
Gets the job done nothing special but above average. I gove it 3 stars because I haven't tried anyone elses brand. Mixability is definitely 2 stars you almost need too much water to be honest. Goes Well With:Whey protein shakes (true whey) enhances Mixability
Thought I'd give it a try for the price. Mixes slow and tastes chalky. Disappointed as I like to buy British, but sadly you get what you pad for here.Goes Well With:Nothing
Went for the unflavoured version of this stuff and can see straight away the problem with the foaming after shaking. Compared to other products the amount of foam left after shaking this product is crazy but there is a simple solution. I filled my shaker with 300mls or so of water and then added a scoop on top. I took a big spoon to the mix and gave it a stong stir for a minute or so. Result was a smooth shake with no lumps. Hope this helps.
