What is Inulin?
Inulin is a starchy carbohydrate found in pulses, predominantly lentils and chickpeas. This amazing fibre has recently been featured on the BBC’s programme with Angela Rippon, ‘How To Stay Young’.
Benefits on Inulin
Inulin offers a range of health benefits. Considered a prebiotic, Inulin is a carbohydrate that good bacteria in your digestive system utilises to produce a number of nutrients which are beneficial towards human health.
How can Inulin be used?
Inulin is also used in baking to preserve the moisture in cakes and biscuits, but also as a binding agent. Inulin can also be used as syrup, by mixing it with water and heating. Finally, this versatile fibre can be used in smoothies to make them thicker and more satiating.

Like a lot of people I started taking this after Angela Rippon's TV programme which talked about the benefits of taking inulin. When I first started taking it I didn't have a 'base line' to compare its effectiveness but I started taking this product a few months ago. I have since had my visceral body fat measured and will use this as a base line (I had no idea unfortunately if it had had an effect up to that point); in a year I will be able to compare when I next have my test. However, having said that - it can only be doing me good and reading other reviews I am going to continue taking it. I actually like mine stirred into yoghurt which isn't to everyone's taste and it can get a bit lumpy but to me the lumps even taste good! I know it's doing me good - you can't see what's going on inside you so in a year's time it will be interesting to see whether my visceral fat percentage has lowered! Meanwhile, great product and I shall persevere!Goes Well With:Yoghurt (if stirred really well) Water It's pretty tasteless so I guess you can put it with anything
Easy to spred on cereal or within smoothies. Seems to be effective.Goes Well With:Cereals
Very satisfied with service and product.Time will tell if the product does its job.
Given a 3 star rating because just started using produce so no visible results as yet.Goes Well With:I use it with smoothies and sprinkle it in my hot drinks and food.
Not sure yet whether this does help reduce visceral fat, but it is certainly good for the digestion and has helped family members with IBS. Recommend Goes Well With:On cereal, in drinks
Mixes really easily and is tasteless. Add it to your protein shaker or juice and you will struggle to noticeGoes Well With:Exceed
Unsure how much to take but experimentation has shown that 2 scoops am and pm have sorted IBS problems. Not sure about inner fat without a scan but well worth using for the previous reason.Goes Well With:Any liquid although needs more mixing in milk
Received very quickly. A good value product. Need to learn how to mix it with cold water to avoid formation of lumps. Stir very quickly immediately it is added to water. Once mastered this works very well. Very happy to recommend MyProteinGoes Well With:Best stirred into cold water.
I was one of the many who first saw Inulin on Angela Rippon's documentary and thought I'd try it to keep me regular, since it was cheaper than my usual psyllium husks and had other benefits. It worked great for a month, but then it took a very dramatic turn for the worst. For the last 5 weeks I have been fighting bouts of diarrhoea, a very unsettled feeling in the bowel, dreadful continual wind, and the headaches that I always get alongside tummy problems. I thought I'd had a flare up of IBS which hasn't really affected me for a couple of years. But having read more about Inulin in the last few days in my desperate attempts to settle my bowel I now realise it has been a great irritant over the last few weeks, despite adjusting the dose down to half a teaspoon per day. I have therefore resorted to psyllium husks tablets again and my 'IBS' has cleared up. So, beware, those of you who suffer with IBS, or have done in the past, this product may not suit you. I have narrowly avoided a colonoscopy that my GP referred me for. Thankfully just in time!
Seems to aid weight loss when taken in a decent quantity, recommend a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 heaped tablespoons/day depending on weight. Produces varying quantities of wind and regularity depending on body weight and digestive system. Mixes with all fluids, drinks and foods I have tried hot or cold. Haven't tried mixing it with alcohol. The 1kg bag lasts 2 people more than 6 weeks.
Have been taking it now for 5 weeks all I can say is I am feeling much better I am 81 years old on 1 November so any improvement to my health is very welcome. I intend to carry on with inulin but it will take a long time to finish this 500 grams. Thank you anyway.Goes Well With:my other medicine which is only my thyroid which is under control.
Thought we would try this for 6 months and see if it will reduce visceral fat. So far not so good had to google to find a dosage max 10grams a day. Then it left my stomach blown up and uncomfortable for a week. So left it a week and now take it 3 times a week so far so good. So we will see if it reduces my VF down, at moment it is 10 and want to lower itGoes Well With:Anything as no taste and only 1/2 a teaspoon
I've been taking inulin about six weeks as I am on steroids abd hope it will help with my steroid belly. Too soon to say what the result might be but I'm hoping it is continuing to work on visceral fat. Goes Well With:It is tasteless. I take it in plain water and it dissolves to a tasteless solution.
I first bought Inulin when I saw the BBC program everybody was talking about. In the beginning it really helped me to regulate my bowel movement, but the longer I have used it, the less effective it became and even caused a very serious constipation. I have now stopped taking it and decided to return to it let's say in 2 weeks time. Mayby my organism just got too used to it...
Discovered Inulin on the internet,it worked ,looked around for best quality and price, tried everywhere, my protein came up trumps ,way cheaper than anywhere else for the same if not better quality. live in Spain so delivery is important ,reasonable charges,in UK looked at and took advantage of special offers and free delivery. Cannot fault product or price.Goes Well With:We put it into Coffee and porridge .
Great service from My Protein, fast deliveries, I'm on third month of using the Inulin and already feel results- especially around my waist; I. sure will have to use it for long time and every day. Otherwise I am slim, active and healthy eater.Thank you for perfect product. Regards Ms N
Decided to try this having researched its effectiveness on gut health. It has proved very effective in bulking ones stools when taking a low carbohydrate diet to aid weight loss. I decided to try it out with my father who is not dieting but has issues with his unstable gut health and can confirm a very positive result for him as well. I would advise a slow introduction to the product as wind can be an initial problem but this does resolve as your guts get used to it .Goes Well With:Everything
I've been using this for a couple of months and I'm assured that it is doing its job. Wonderful.
Saw this product on T.V. and thought I would give it a go. Been suffering with a poorly stomach for a while, prescription drugs didn't help. Great Inulin has changed my life, pain has gone away. Easy to order, well packaged, arrived quickly, will definitely be ordering more in the future. Goes Well With:On its own, porridge, soups, curry, if fact anything you eat it can be sprinkled on top, as it is tasteless.
Excellent product to help the digestive system. Quick and easy to mix with food or squash. Goes Well With:Any meal as it mixes a treat
No issues so far, bought it after seeing it mentioned on TV, not sure how I will know it's working at keeping visceral fat at bay.Goes Well With:I use it on fruit and porridge and in cold drinks such as squash
Great product and fast delivery. Product very easy to use and I put it in shakes. Takes a few days for your body to get use to but its great.Goes Well With:Shakes, cereal, porridge
it is a fairly good product, it takes few days but it works pretty well. neutral taste, it mix fair, all in all a fair good in my experience. it would be better if it would be little bit cheaper.
Saw this product recommended by Angela Rippon for reducing internal fat over 6 month period. No info re amount to take and internet very vague re this purpose. One report says diabetics tested with 30g per day reduced blood sugar levels by 10% so that is my aim. Having to work up slowly from 5g (currently on 20g) due to increased bowel activity initially and then flatulence, but seem to be overcoming these side effects. Blood sugar has reduced a bit, but a bit early to have internal fat levels rechecked after only taking for a few weeks. Easy to add to food and no taste noticed.Goes Well With:Sprinkled on breakfast cereals or in porridge, smoothies or shakes
Zero taste and mixes easily with any protein shake
Not sure about how effective it is, as I'm using it in the hope of reducing any visceral fat I may have. However, pleased to say no unpleasant side effects and easy to mix I to, porridge, desserts and drinks to. Would be great to see how Angela Rippen got on after six months of using inulin. I wonder if she's planning a second body scan to review progress and a follow up TV programme?Goes Well With:Porridge, muesli and fruit and yogurt.
This is a long term plan and I will have no idea how its going for at least 6 months it really has no taste and I have had little or no side effects well done
Great service and really like the fact there is no taste to this product. Haven't used it long enough to comment on effectiveness for definite but seems to do the job.
been taking Inulin for five weeks now -25g per day at breakfast --to early to say what good it is doing but for myself I feel less bloated and much fitter and at 73 yrs that makes a difference Goes Well With:any fresh fruit and yogurt or just in a small glass of water with a dash of lime juice .
Tried inulin following recent BBC TV program , good price and powder dissolves easily in water for drink. Have seen slight weight loss and general improvement in health , however have only used for 1-2 weeks so too early to tell of what effect it will ultimately have as suggestion is use over 6 month periodGoes Well With:Water / diluting juice
I brought it because I saw the Angela Rippon show and thought it would do no harm to try, but I must say that it does do one thing and that is keep my bowels regular. As far as fat goes I have no idea if it is doing its job but lets hope time will tell. Goes Well With:porridge
Excellent product. Mixes very well. Easy to take.
Heard great things about this so decided to try. Mixes well, no taste and hope to reap the benefits of this super stuff!!
TOO EARLY TO MAKE A COMMENT REALLY, OTHER THAN MY GP HAS AGREED FOR ME TO TRY THIS ON MY RECOMMENDATION, THEN HAVE A CHLORESTROL CHECK IN 3 MONTHS.....WATCH THIS SPACE
Really pleased with the powder, goes into anything and noticed a difference the next day. A very easy way to ensure fiber in your diet and keep the fat tissue around your organs lean.Goes Well With:Anything, food drinks, because it doesn't taste of anything it is so versatile.
Very good product, good quality, definitely recommend
Without wanting to sound disgusting this product really works in producing a better No2. I disolve it in my morning tea or coffee. My only con is the size of the package. I think it's too big for the amount of contents. When using the provided scoop you get lots of product on your hand.Goes Well With:Anything it's tasteless
I first came across inulin on the TV programme "How to Stay Young", when Angela Rippon was advised to use inulin to reduce her visceral fat. I subsequently found a research paper --- "A randomized controlled trial: the effect of inulin on weight management and ectopic fat in subjects with prediabetes" --- that concluded that "Inulin may have a two-pronged effect on the risk of diabetes by 1) promoting weight loss 2) reducing intrahepatocellular and intramyocellular lipid in people with prediabetes independent of weight loss." Inulin is very easy to take. I just add it to a mug of tea in the same way that I would add sugar. It has a pleasant, mildly sweet taste. I started at one scoop (3.5g) of inulin per day, and I'm slowly building up to the levels (~30g per day) used in research trials. I haven't had any significant problems with flatulence, but I was already on quite a high fibre diet so my digestive system was probably already in a good state to tolerate --- and, I hope, benefit from --- the addition of inulin to my diet. It's much too early for me to comment on inulin's effectiveness ....... and I may never know with any certainty whether it's having a beneficial effect on me as an individual. You need proper randomised, double-blinded scientific trials to establish the effectiveness of this sort of dietary intervention.
Didn't know what to expect as this was a first time buy but pleasantly surprised. Very fine powder so mixes with anything - plain water or sprinkle on food. Hardly any taste but sweet, so wouldn't put on savoury food. Use in baking too. Just wish l could monitor it's effectiveness. Goes Well With:Anything non savoury, food or drink.
Easy to use, only been using it for 2 weeks. Very disappointed on instructions only comment on the package 1 1/2 scoop ... no mention of how often, with food or not.
Mixes really well - too early to tell if I will reap the benefits, but after hearing good things about the effects of Inulin, I was intrigued to try it! I was worried it would taste disgusting, but you can't taste it at all! I mix mine with a glass of water each day and it tastes fine!Goes Well With:Water
I bought this product after watching the BBC programme about staying young with Angela Rippon. Being slightly overweight i was worried about internal body fat around heart etc and so thought i'd give it a try, on the premis that it might do me good. Did a lot of back ground reading (which is always a good idea!) and it seemed safe with few side effects. So bought this from a reputable online firm (no high street store by me sell it) My Protein, and am so glad i did. Firstly the product is amazing, it taste when mixed with water (1 teaspoon in water); like very mild fruit sugar. More amazing though is that it has helped me lose 8lb in 4 week. For me this is due mainly i think because it just reduces my appitite. It might be doing something clever inside but i just feel more satisfied after eating and am not craving sweet snacks during the day. It was so effective during the first few weeks i also add some to my sons milk shakes, to help him control his weight. Again it just seems to reduce appetite for us. If it is also reducing internal fat then thats a bonus. Glad i used "My Protein", very careful what i give my son, doubly so with medicine (which this isn't) and suppliments, but i am confident that M Protein supply me a high quality product. Their customer service is amazing and I am so grateful i found this company and this product.Goes Well With:Water and Vimto Milk shakes with fruit
I have only been using inulin for a couple of weeks - all I can say is that I feel better. I don't have any physical proof of it - no weight loss, no miraculous skin tightening or the reversal of the effects of gravity BUT I really FEEL better. Let's give it another little while and I'll report back again. AS for taste - there is none. I usually have it in my first cup of green tea in the morning and it doesn'y efffect the taste or texture of it.Goes Well With:Anything I eat or drink !
Bought this product as it is recommended to reduce visceral fat (around the organs) with long term use, so there's no visible evidence that it works, you've got to trust the research! It's a very fine odourless and tasteless powder so is easily taken in food (I mix it into yoghurt) although I haven't tried it in a drink/liquid. The only negative is the packaging, it comes in a sachet with a small scoop which means putting your whole hand into the bottom of the sachet every time and getting covered in the (slightly sticky) powder which wastes the product. It needs to be supplied in a tub. Goes Well With: Yoghurt
It's difficult to review a product properly when the effects may not be fully gained for several months. But the product is exactly what I expected, it mixes well within shakes, I've yet to cook with it although I don't force any issues having used it cold in mixes. Goes Well With:Shakes (cold)
As stated there is no taste. It is too early to tell whether the product is effective yet as I have only been taking it for a few days. Although the product is light weight and resealable it is impossible to access it without covering your hand in the fine powder, I have therefore transferred it to an airtight plastic box. One further thing, I could not dissolve it in juice as it stayed in a solid lump, however it does dissolve in boiling water which can then be topped up with either cold water or juice.Goes Well With:Water or any juice
My husband is getting on fine with this product but I'm afraid my body is not liking it at all. I have to rush to the toilet up to four times instead of my usual controlled one and sorry to be graphic, but it is explosive! I will give it a few weeks and then try a lower dose and see how it goes. Otherwise, it is easy to use, tasteless and effective.Goes Well With:Fruit juices.
Just bought our second batch of this and I would recommend it. Delivery is super fast both times I have ordered. I found it easier to sprinkle on food especially cereal and there is no taste to it. It can be mixed with shakes or water just my prefrence is sprinkle. After a few weeks of using you really can tell the diffrence in how you feel. It dose at first give you a little wind- but I found that settled after a week and keeps you regular also. Well worth a try and the best value I have foundGoes Well With:cereal, shakes or water
Our order came promptly and well packaged. Don't really know the benefits and probably won't know in the short time. Just hoping to reduce internal fat if I have any? After watching TV programme about the benefits of inulin, we decided it may do some good and won't do any harm as its only a food supplement. Goes Well With:I find it dissolves easily in my hot coffee or tea.
For a diabetic, like myself, this was unusable as there is high sugar content.
